Future2 grants $5,000 to Special Olympics Australia in Mackay

Future2, the philanthropic arm of the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA), has awarded a $5,000 grant to Special Olympics Australia Mackay, a community not-for-profit organisation that provides weekly sports training and regular competition for people with an intellectual disability.

The grant was awarded on Wednesday in Mackay by FPA Chapter Chair James Wortley CFP®, who presented the cheque to Kimberly Doyle, Chair of Special Olympics Australia Mackay. The organisation was nominated and endorsed by local FPA member Beverley Ferris CFP®.

“Thanks go to the Future2 Foundation and the tireless work done by the FPA members involved in fundraising for a worthy cause; they all should be congratulated as they have changed our athletes’ lives!” said Ms Doyle.

“Thanks to Bev who believed in our club and endorsed our application and thanks to James for his work in the community. I am very blessed to know both of them.”

Special Olympics has grown from a backyard camp into a global movement that has been transforming the lives of people with an intellectual disability for almost 50 years. The global sporting community was pioneered by the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister to US President John F Kennedy as well as Rosemary who had an intellectual disability. Today, Special Olympics supports over 5 million athletes in 177 countries.

The Future2 Make the Difference! grants help fund projects that give hope for a better future to 12-25 year olds who may be financially disadvantaged, homeless, juvenile justice offenders, drug or alcohol dependent, disabled, or disadvantaged in some other respect.

“This year grants will be awarded to 14 charity organisations across Australia in regional and metro areas, each endorsed by a local FPA member,” said Future2 Chair Matthew Brown CFP®. “The grants come as a result of FPA members who commit their time and energy to help make a meaningful difference to their communities.”

The Future2 Foundation celebrates its 11th year in 2018 and grant applications open mid-year. For more information visit www.future2foundation.com.au
