One of my earliest memories of the stock market and learning to invest was watching the movie Wall Street. Whilst a lot of the concepts were beyond me at that point, I was attracted to the frenetic energy of the brokers and the excitement of the trading floor. A few years later I came across the book “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” which was written in 1923. Its timeless market and life lessons intrigued me further.My interest in the market led me to study Accounting and Finance as part of my Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Western Australia. During my final year, I commenced working at Porter Western (later acquired by Macquarie Bank).Two years later, in the year 2000, I commenced working at Patersons Securities Limited which was taken over by Canaccord Genuity in 2019 . Initially my role was as an assistant, but I quickly moved to Head SEATS operator, trading in the market on behalf of our brokers and their clients. After that role, I commenced my career as a broker. I moved to Sydney and took up a position as a Director on our Institutional desk.My current role is centred around providing advice and strategies to a varied group of clients that include institutional, retail, high net-worth people and intermediaries, especially financial planning groups.I have a deep understanding of the planning landscape on both a practical and theoretical level due to my long term dealings with planning groups and my post graduate studies.Throughout my working career I have also actively sought to further my education, including completing a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning, graduating from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and completing the CFP designation.
