Recognition of prior learning
Did you know the FPA provides recognition of prior learning (RPL) into the program? RPL is awarded to individuals who are able to demonstrate the likelihood of successfully achieving the CFP Certification outcomes. Credits may be awarded for CFP 1 – 4 depending on your previous qualifications and studies.
With the CFP® designation being recognised in 27 territories around the world, your designation goes with you wherever you choose to go.

There are many pathways to enter the CFP® Certification Program and we are committed to working one-to-one with you, to find the best solution. The pathways are outlined below:
- An approved degree (advanced standing may apply)
- An Australian financial degree with a Diploma of Financial Planning
- A non-related or International degree with an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning
- An Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning and working towards your degree
- Eight subjects from an approved Masters (Graduate Diploma)

INTEGRATED CFP® CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AND MASTERS DEGREE
The FPA has partnered with five education providers, which will allow financial planners to combine a Master of Financial Planning degree with the CFP® Certification Program.
This new opportunity offers choice and flexibility to financial planning professionals, who can now graduate with both an academic qualification and the highest global professional designation in financial planning.

A Member, despite having attained CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation, must also meet the relevant requirements under the Corporations Act in order to use the marks ‘CFP’ or ‘CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER’ when carrying on a financial services business or providing financial advice. It is the Member’s responsibility to ensure that it meets all the relevant legislative requirements when using the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and CFP® trademarks. FPA cannot and will not guarantee any Member completing the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation is eligible to use the expression ‘financial planner’ under the Corporations Act.
