Mark Brimble steps down as Chair of FPEC

The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) announced today that Dr Mark Brimble has officially resigned from his post as Chair of the Financial Planning Education Council (FPEC).

Dr Brimble, a Board Director with the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA), is stepping down from chairing FPEC following FASEA’s announcement to adopt FPEC’s framework and course approval list.

Commenting on Dr Brimble’s resignation, Neil Kendall CFP®, FPA Chairman, said: “The FPA Board wishes to thank Mark for his outstanding contribution in helping to build FPEC and

the work he has done to raise the standards of financial planning education since his appointment as Chair in November 2013.

“In this volunteer role, Mark has guided the development of a world leading university curriculum for bachelor degrees in financial planning. The FPA recognises Mark’s commitment and dedication to advancing the profession, and we commend him on his hard work.

“Mark has also been responsible for launching the Financial Planning Research Journal and establishing a research grant to foster academic research in the field of financial planning, which is critical in the evolution of financial planning becoming a recognised profession.”

Sharon Taylor, Senior Lecturer at Western Sydney University and current Deputy Chair of FPEC, will be acting as Chair until the FPA Board appoint a suitable replacement.

FPEC was established by the FPA in 2011 as an independent body chartered with raising the standard of financial planning education and promoting financial planning as a distinct learning area and a career of choice.
