FPA Award winners and top performers recognised at FPA Congress


The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) has announced the winners of the 2016 FPA Awards and the latest winner of the Gwen Fletcher Memorial Award at the opening keynote session of the FPA Professionals Congress today in Perth.

Taking out the FPA CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Professional of the Year Award is Tony Sandercock of wetalkmoney. The award acknowledges Tony’s mission to ‘transform the way people plan for retirement’, his dedication to ongoing learning, and the mentorship of those around him.

FPA CEO Dante De Gori CFP® said, “Tony is passionate about motivating clients, helping them set meaningful goals and simplify complex decisions. His client testimonials were outstanding and a testament to his work.”

Winning the FPA Financial Planner AFP® of the Year Award for 2016 is Cody Harmon AFP® of Meridian Wealth Management. Mr Harmon uses a values based approach, in conjunction with goal setting, to help clients realise their hopes and dreams through financial advice. He is also passionate about ongoing learning and is a regular mentor to university students.

The first ever FPA Paraplanner of the Year Award was awarded to Cynthia Sercombe of Tupicoffs. Ms Sercombe was given the award in recognition of her technical excellence, dedication to quality and passion for providing pro-bono services.

Winning the first ever FPA Professional Practice of the Year Award was ipac Western Australia. The winning practice was hailed as an ‘entrepreneurial leader’ in the provision of financial advice, technology and its approach to marketing and events. ipac Western Australia were also commended for their commitment to staff development, charity and community involvement.

The FPA University Student of the Year Award was given to Bradley Aleckson of Griffith University in recognition of his academic excellence and commitment to becoming a future role model for financial planning. A consistent high performer, Mr Aleckson has been a top performer in his Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Financial Planning and Finance degree, and is a two-time winner of the Griffiths Award for Academic Excellence.

The Gwen Fletcher Memorial Award recognises the highest performing student in the final unit of the CFP® Certification Program. Cameron Obliubek CFP® from Bridges Financial Services is the 2016 winner of the honorary award named after the late “First lady of Financial Planning”.

Mr De Gori said, “The CFP® Certification Assessment unit is rigorous, so to receive the Gwen Fletcher Memorial Award is a major achievement. Cameron’s outstanding results are a testament to his commitment and dedication. I congratulate him for his efforts and look forward to welcoming him to our growing CFP® professional community.”

The winner of the Future2 Community Service Award will be announced at the Future2 Gala Dinner on Thursday 24 November.
