The FPA Townsville Chapter Committee, in association with our event partners Blackrock, BT Group Licensees and BT Investment Solutions invites you to a Workshop Seminar on Wednesday 24 August on ‘Two Sides of the Coin – Buying and Selling a Financial Planning Business’.

During this event you will hear from two guest speakers who will focus on the key areas you need to consider when you are buying or selling a financial planning business.

Speaker 1: Gary Higgins

Gary is a Chartered Accountant specialising in mergers & acquisition, business valuations and financial due diligence. Gary was a Partner in Ernst & Young for 18 years, prior to establishing his own business, Elary Corporate Services Pty. Ltd. He has significant experience in valuing professional practices including financial planning practices, accounting practices, consulting engineering practices, architectural services firms and general consulting practices.

Gary has performed assignments for many financial planning practices covering business valuation, succession planning and financial due diligence services.

During his session, Gary will use a case study to create discussion around the following:
– Going concern v client serving rights
– What is the right price
– Negotiating terms
– Financial due diligence
– Tips and traps

Speaker 2: Brian Pollock

Brian is the National Manager Corporate Governance for BT Select and is responsible for the management of and delivery of the core governance program.  This ranges from chairing responsible manager forums, undertaking licensee health checks, delivering responsible manager/compliance training, and supporting responsible managers in meeting their obligations. Brian has over 17 years’ experience in the financial planning industry, with significant compliance and risk management leadership and operational experience.

Brian is a financial planning advocate and passionate about supporting financial planning businesses and licensees grow and protect their business.

During his session, Brian will focus on completing an effective due diligence process. This will help you better understand the business you are looking to purchase to ensure that it is consistent with your strategy, standards and risk appetite.

Drinks and canapes will be provided along with a brief FPA update.
